Here I am painting one of the 101 pochades in this series of artworks.

I plan to post them each over the next few months to show where I painted

and the end results.

The show has received good reviews so far and the book is progressing along

and should be available by September.

I look forward to sharing it with you.

Start of New show

The paintings are all hung and comments have already been arriving. Thought I would start the "E"-show with the real cover art. The first photo was the photo that I used for the painting.

This new art piece will quickly take its place for the book itself as it goes to the publisher.

This photo was taken by friend and talented photographer Randy Harris and he graciously

agreed to let me use it as a reference. It is not your usual picture of the courthouse but found it to be really interesting and thought it would work well for the cover o the new book.

101 and Nearly Done!

This year long project is about to come to completion. My journey painting scenes of my home county has been a good one. I have met so many nice folks and hopefully become a better painter in the process.

I plan to share these with you over the next few months and will let you know when the book is available.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you all about a place I call "Home".

I am so excited I am about to bust! A project that I have been working

on for about a year is just about complete and I look forward to sharing

it with you soon.

These past twelve months have ben about a goal to paint 101

"pochades" of my home county. I have been form one end to the other

and so many places in between creating paintings from both historic

and memorable places I call home. It has been a fantastic journey and

over the next few I will share not only the art but the journey as well.

I am finishing a book about the project and the art and it should

be for sale in late August.

I hope as always you will enjoy the ride.

New show at Belmont University

Several artists from the Chestnut group of plein air painters are showing works at the Leu Gallery-Belmont University starting June 1 and running thru August 5.

I was fortunate to be selected as one of the feature artists and the Opening reception is

Wednesday June 9th from 4-6 p.m. If you are in the neighborhood please stop by.

I was very excited to be selected along with some of my favorite artists, Dawn Whitelaw, Kim Barrick, Calvin Shriver, and several others.

This show "Saving Paradise" features artwork from vanishing scenes across Tennessee.

Again if you get a chance go see the show I think you will be glad you did.

I lost my mind! This is a plein air painting I did last fall at the Tn Governor's Mansion

at the invite of First Lady Andrea Conte. While it was an honor to be invited t was the first real start to finish painting I did in a three hour time frame. Several artists from across the state where asked to paint scenes from the Mansion's grounds. These were then framed and auctioned for a fund raiser to support the upgrades for the Mansion. WHile it was a bit scary, under the time line, it was a truly great experience for me. Hope you like it.

As spring blooms all around us it is amazing the different things we have to paint. But you need to catch them in a hurry as they don't all last very long. This is one of my favorites from last year and hope this water color brightens your day. Sorry for the dots. Will tyr better next time to use the de-dot filter!

This watercolor is one of my all time favorites. The simplicity in the snow I think makes the piece. The color is a little off with maybe too much yellow but I will try and update a better shot late. 'Til then, enjoy.

This is a piece I did this winter for sale at the Gallery. It was there about

a week when it sold.

This is a new piece about 30 x 40 and shows one of my favorite subjects. I love moving water and this scene is just at the start of Fall. Right about now in Middle Tennessee. I had a good time with this and learned alot. Hope you like it too.

End of Day

I choose that title alot but it fits what I paint. This is a recent donation to a new chapter of Delta Waterfowl getting started in my hometown. Hope it makes for a good auction piece and works nicely for this new group. I don't hunt but sure liked the feeling of it.

This is a recent painting I did for David Price as a fundraiser for his foundation. David was he number one draft pick of the Tampa Bay Rays. He is from My home town and this picture was something I have wanted to paint since last year when I saw this moment. For me it expresses the true joy in baseball. I think it was the final inning in the playoffs and David came in to the ninth inning and closed out the game sending the Rays to the World series.

It reminded me of why little boys grow up pitching the final out in our "backyard" stadium to do just what David did. Make it to the big leagues and make his dream come true. Congrats!

I do a lot of fly fishing. Okay. I do a lot of fly fishing in my mind! Nearly every day I drift off to some quite stream to spend a moment or two. Just another dream on canvas. Maybe someday!

Summer Harvest

Just another tomato for the big Tomatoe fest in Nashville in August. They are starting to ripen and boy are they good. Hope someone wants to take this home as a reminder when winter comes!

Tomato Talk

Was recently selected to participate in Tomato Fest in Downtown Nashville. An Annual event
that celebrates the famous "Fruit of Summer". This is a recent finish that I thought someone might like...especially in winter when we are hoping again for real tomatoes to return!

This painting is my latest in a series on fly fishing. I have been trying more large pieces and at 30 x 40 unframed this is one of the largest I have attempted. I sure wish I was the guy in the water! Hope it makes you feel like you were on the water, too!

The Best of Barney

Happy Holidays to all! While most of us are celebrating this season we should remember those who have less and may need more. This is a oil I did for a close friend whose dog ran away about a week ago and he is still looking for him. While heartbroke he has not given up looking but I had agreed to paint the dog a while back and I gave it to him wrapped for Christmas. I told him to wait and open it when he was ok with it. I hope Barney returns and they get to open it together.

Not THE White House but the house the White's live in. I live in a town with an historic Main Street and this is a house that Mr and Mrs. White live in... therefor it has always been referred to as the White House! This was from this summer.

Was asked to paint this church for a client's 60th wedding anniversary. He wanted it to be a winter scene. Will post the next entry of the watercolor.

A still life using simple shotgun shells. This one didn't last long at the gallery. Three days in the window and it was sold. May have to try another arrangement maybe with a duck call in it for hunters.

Two fishing and one rowing on an early morning. What a peaceful time of day. This is about a 16 x 20 not including a frame. Sure looks nice over the mantle. I wanted to show this as I liked the smaller one so well that I wanted to do it again larger. Thought the ochre colors might be interesting. Wish we were there!

As the light of day comes to a close this fisherman is trying to get in one more cast. I love this time of day. Most things are at quite or peacefulness and the light is fading ever so fast. Things seem to be so electric with color.

And it Does! You almost need a camera to keep this long enough as the light changes so quickly at sunset. This is a field near Murfreesboro, Tn where I live. What a beautiful Sunset.

I found out yesterday that one of my oil paintings of blue suede shoes was selected for the 43 annual Central South Art Exhibit in Nashville. Sixty nine pieces were selected from all across the country. More than 475 pieces were entered. I will try and post a photo of the piece soon.

Distant Storm

This watercolour was done from a photo from out west near Durango, Colorado. The clouds out there are unbelievable. You can sit and watch a storm pass for hours.

Grist mill in snow

I love grist mills! I can't explain it but I do. This one in winter makes me want to move in and live there. I photographed it after framing so I apologize for the reflections. It sure would make a great place to call home!

House paint

Did I mention that I paint houses. Watercolors and oils that is. This is one I did for a client who wasn't sure whether they wanted it done in winter or spring so I ended up doing both. Maybe I will post the spring one here sometime. I have alot of fun doing these and folks sure seem to like them. What do you think?

This Amish couple seemed to be taking thier new baby home and I thought it might make a nice watercolor. The family was all bundled ready for a snowy ride home. I think the horizontal pose adds to the picture... do you agree?

Courthouse Cupola

This is my first attempt at painting the historic civil war courthouse on our town square.

It is a value study using only sepia colours. While the courthouse has been painted many times I thought it might be interesting to do a value study using only browns. It know hangs in the lobby of one of our top lawyer's offices.

Last light of day

This is a large piece from a place not far from my home. I love this time of day, just before sunset. So many colours come alive and while it is fun to paint it passes by very quickly. There's a fish or two along that bank. I am sure of it!

This oil was done from a photo taken at a nearby Farmer's Market. I did it in sepia colors as a try at studying values. It reminds me that home grown tomatoes are just around the corner!

I am not sure why but I have become attracted to houses that display the American flag as of late. They seem to catch my eye and I am going to try and paint a series of them over the next year. This is one from a town about thirty miles from my home.
